The City of Stonnington is seeking comment on the intention to lease part of Northbrook House at 1257 High Street, Malvern, to Access Health and Community Limited.

The office space behind the History Centre at Northbrook (approximately 350m2) will be used to deliver a Headspace service; providing mental health services to young people aged 12-25 years. The establishment of Headspace will not impact on the current History Centre which will retain its operations at the front part of the Northbrook building.

One in four people aged 16-24 years experiences some form of mental illness every year and three-quarters of all mental illness manifests in people under the age of 25 years.

This is an opportunity to provide a service in Malvern that will impact positively on young people’s mental health.

The lease is proposed, for an initial three-year term with two further terms of three years each. The commencing annual rental is $27,000 plus GST. It is expected that the Headspace service will operate Monday-Friday during business hours, with services open until 7.00pm once a week (most likely on Wednesdays).

A planning permit application is currently being processed to change the permitted use of the building from its current zoning of ‘Public Use’ to ‘Medical Services’ to enable the mental health counselling services to take place. This process is anticipated to take 4-6 weeks.

You are invited to contribute feedback on the proposed lease to Access Health and Community Limited by 21 September 2021.
