Gardiner Park is being redeveloped as part of Council’s commitment to provide high-quality facilities and open space for the community.

Following feedback from the local community and sports clubs, Council adopted the Gardiner Park Concept Plan on 18 July 2016. The redevelopment was put on hold whilst Council considered the future use of the sportsground. On 6 February 2017 Council committed to resuming the project and will proceed with the implementation of the Final Concept Plan during 2017.

The redevelopment will include:

  • The conversion of the existing natural turf sportsground within the park to a high quality all weather synthetic turf sportsground
  • Replacement of the existing floodlights with new floodlights that meet contemporary lighting standards for football (all codes) training
  • Replacement of the existing pavilion with a new pavilion in line with the provision standards and priorities in Council’s Pavilion Redevelopment Strategy
  • Upgrades of the existing playground, barbeque and picnic areas, and
  • Landscaping improvements throughout the park.

Provision of a synthetic sports ground within the park will help to alleviate the overuse of many nearby grounds and provide capacity for increased participation in sport through the addition of new teams, particularly juniors and women.
